Introducing Jackson John Schurger

We would like to introduce to everyone our handsome son Jackson John Schurger. He was born May 28th, 2010 at 1:05 a.m. He weighed 7lbs. 7 oz. and was 21.5 inches long. In true Schurger style, Jackson made a grand entrance. I was induced around 5:00 on Thursday evening. I was having some pretty intense back labor but was attempting to hang in and not take any medicine. About 10 or 11 the doctor came in to check me and notice that I was only 3-4 cm. At that time, the nurse asked him if we even knew if this baby was head down. He did an ultrasound and confirmed that Jackson was actually sitting Frank breech (butt down, legs folded up by his ears). The doc then began talking to us about our options: try to turn the baby (which would hurt my greatly and only had about a 35% chance of working), c-section (my greatest fear), or having me get an epidural (one of my other great fears) to relax my body and try to deliver him breech (assuming the baby wasn't in distress). After talking with Tony, I decided that I was going to try to stick it out and deliver Jackson with the help of the epidural. I was later told that if I had any other doctor that there is no way that I would have even been given the choice. At about 12:00 I was given the epidural. Not long after, the doctor came in to check me before he was supposed to be heading upstairs for a c-section. He wanted to check me and thought that when he was done in an hour it would be time for me to deliver. He soon realized that I had progressed so quickly that he needed to hold off the other c-section and deliver me. The next thing I knew, there were like 8 people in the room scurrying around trying to get things ready. Shortly after, our baby boy was born! When a joy and a blessing he is! God was so faithful in protecting both Jackson and I through this delivery and in giving Tony the strength he needed to support me. I know that this was no picnic on Tony either. God is so good!
